Service dog training involves two main components: public access and task training. The initial phase, public access training, is centered on instructing the dog to remain focused and not react as a typical pet would to external distractions in public settings. Once the dog has mastered maintaining focus regardless of the environment, the focus shifts to task training, where specific skills are taught to assist with the handler’s disability. Personally, experiencing this daily, I navigate life with my service dog Odin, who plays a crucial role in helping me manage my PTSD. Fort Worth area only.
