Face it, it’s a crazy world out there. The way I cope and keep from losing it is a steady diet of coffee and dogs. Seldom do I enjoy a cup of Joe without a dog on me or next to me. As a retired cop I have to admit I am not really a coffee shop guy. Being used to gas station and instant coffee most of the time a high-end Sumatra bled is wasted on me or so I thought.
Last October I had the pleasure of training a then one year old King Charles Cavalier named Stella Blue owned by Jen & Kevin. Jen invited me to check out The Green Bean Roasting Company owned by her and her business partner Krissy. After finding out that it was not just dog friendly, but dog preferred, I was in. It took me a while, but I finally got a break in the action and got there yesterday with my wing man Odin. Jen was not there but luckily her husband Kevin was with Krissy behind the country. The shop is comforting from the time you walk in. Kevin treated me to a cup, and I told Krissy I liked “just coffee” not black, but just a little cream and sugar. What she handed me was delicious. She said she figured I liked a dark roast, and the Sumatra that was roasted by Jen was perfect.
Odin was thrilled with getting all kinds of attention from patrons as I sat in a comfy chair and had a nice chat with a young married couple who just had a baby. Watching regulars come and go it reminded me of the “Cheers” of coffee. Krissy new everyone who came in and met them with a smile. I spend more time in cigar lounges than I do coffee shops, but I got the same feeling at the Green Bean as I do there. Enjoying the commodity of a shared indulgence while taking time to relax in a soothing place. For some reason I think I may just happen to be in the area of the shop and swing in pretty often. So, if you are in need of a good cup or one of their fancy coffees, fattening sweets, or take-home roasted coffee, swing with your pup and tell them George & Odin sent ya. We love to support other small business that believe in a relationship with the customer.
