Some of you may know that besides dogs my other mission field is recovery for men. These are my friends Tank and Mike. I first met Tank when he was in a shelter in MD. An acquaintance wanted to adopt him but they told her he was out of control. When she took me there they would not even let me in the room with him without two of their staff and asked me if I was sure I wanted to do this. I said yes and they let me in. As the two staff stayed up against the wall like he was Hannibal Lechter I walked towards him before turning sideways and tapping my leg. He came to me and I began to pet him, put him on and ICL and did with him what I do with every dog, a Silent Loose Leash Walk and a Focus Drill and the employees all watch from behind a window. Then I took him outside and repeated it. She ended up adopting him but lost interest and another friend took him. I worked with them and he did all the same things. Then due to circumstances she could no longer keep him. Now I believe Tank has finally found his furever home with Mike. I don’t care about where Mike has been or what he has done. I care that Mike is out of jail, working, sober, and just got engaged to an amazing lady. This picture is what love, self control, peace, sanity, and sobriety look… nothing more beautiful. Look at Tank looking at Mike, how relaxed Mike is leading him. This is healing.
